On Eggshells and Sheen

What finish works best for your room?

Interior paints come in a variety of finishes including: flat enamel, matte, pearl, eggshell, low or medium luster, semi-gloss or high gloss. The gloss, or shininess of the paint when the light hits it can accentuate trim or walls while sheen is more subtle.

Imperfections in a wall may be more noticeable when using a glossier finish so those are typically best suited for trim. We have found that eggshell or satin finishes work best for most interior walls in living and bedroom spaces, while flat enamel stands the durability test in areas that require frequent cleaning such as kitchens, or in high humidity areas like bathrooms. We’ll talk to you about what will work best for the way you live.
